Actors Who Officially Portrayed James Bond

Undeniably, James Bond is one of the most popular characters portrayed in films. Actors who portrayed James Bond in official EON films were Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and the latest is Daniel Craig.

Other actors who portrayed James Bond unofficially were Barry Nielsen in 1954, Bob Holness in 1956 and David Niven in 1967.

Who is Barry Nelson? He was an American actor who was born on April 16, 1917 and died on April 7, 2007. Nelson is well-remembered as the first actor to portray Ian Fleming’s secret agent – James Bond in the 1954 American television adaptation of “Casino Royale”. He is the only American to play James Bond.

1.) Sean Connery


Sean Connery or Sir Thomas Sean Connery is the first to portray 007 in Dr. No which was released in 1962. He officially played the role of James Bond from 1962 to 1967 and again in 1971. This actor from Scotland is the longest to play the role appearing in 7 films in a span of 21 years. Connery, born in August 1930 has been polled as "The Greatest Living Scot," and was knighted in July 2000. In 1989, he was proclaimed "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine, and in 1999, at age 69, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century".






2.) George Lazenby


George Lazenby is an Australian actor who played the role of James Bond in the film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service which was released in1969. OHMSS is considered a brilliant thriller and ranks amongst the best Bond films ever produced. Lazenby was born George Robert Lazenby on September 5, 1939. He was 29 when OHMSS was filmed.











3.) Roger Moore


Roger Moore or Sir Roger George Moore portrayed James Bond from 1973 to 1985. The film “Live and Let Die” was his debut as James Bond in 1973. Moore also appeared in seven consecutive EON produced films between 1973 and 1985. He is an English actor who was born on October 14, 1927. He was 57 when “A View to a Kill” was released.











4.) Timothy Dalton

Timothy Dalton played the role of James Bond from 1986 to 1993. He starred in “The Living Daylight” in 1987 and “License to Kill” in 1989. Dalton portrayed James Bond more seriously and stiffer compared to Roger Moore. Timothy Peter Dalton is a Welsh actor. He was born on March 21, 1946. Dalton performed most of the stunts of the action scenes himself.








5.) Pierce Brosnan


Pierce Brosnan played James Bond from 1995 to 2002. Brosnan is an Irish actor whose first Bond film is “Golden Eye” which was released in 1995. Golden Eye was the franchise's highest-grossing film at that date. He is the only actor who did not star in a James Bond film titled after an Ian Fleming and is the second actor not to have been from the UK. He is also the only actor who did not resign from the role. Other Bond films of Brosnan include “Tomorrow Never Dies”, “The World Is Not Enough” and “Die Another Day”. Pierce Brendan Brosnan was born on May 16, 1953. He is now an American citizen.











6.) Daniel Craig's Bond


Daniel Craig is the current actor to portray the role of James Bond. He signed a 5-film contract with EON Productions to play James Bond on October 23, 2005. Daniel Wroughton Craig, an English actor, was born on March 2, 1968 becoming the first actor to portray James Bond to be born after the Bond series already started and Ian Fleming, the novels’ writer, had died. His film “Casino Royale”, which was released in 2006, became the highest grossing of the series. Craig is a superb James Bond; he is leaner, more taciturn, less sex-obsessed and able to be hurt in body and soul. His performance in the “Casino Royal” was the first in the series to earn a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. The 22nd Bond film, “Quantum of Solace”, was released in 2008.
